History

Hello, my name is Scott Velders. If you’ve found your way to the Social Solutions NY (for the physically disabled ) website, then chances are either you or someone you love is currently learning how to live with a physical disability.

Before 2005, I was the President of a construction/masonry business based on Long Island. During that period, I had no physical limitations in life, and focused on my responsibilities to both my business and my family. But then my entire life changed. My drive to further my business success was halted when my body gave up on me and I suffered from a brain aneurysm which required major surgery. I went home from the hospital thinking I would recover, only to have a stroke and return to the hospital once again. The next memory I have is waking up in early 2006 in a nursing home with the left side of my body paralyzed.

The next several years I can only describe as existing as opposed to living. Through a series of events I found myself homeless, requiring help from my family who offered me a place to stay until I decided to start living again. I began searching and searching for organizations and opportunities to get back out there and experience the world again, only to find that the solution I was looking for did not exist. From that moment on, it became my mission to start a nonprofit dedicated to helping fellow disabled individuals become social and active again. It was that moment that the seed of Social Solutions NY began to germinate in my mind, and I am so excited to watch it grow.

We are the first and only activity, excursion, and event-based group in New York. If you are an individual with a physical disability who is tired of existing and wants to start living, then come check us out. We are seeking to recruit members whose lives have been interrupted by a physical disability.

Potential members will be asked to fill out an Application/Eligibility form that will be reviewed confidentially by Social Solutions NY management.

Now, let’s get down to the business of living again!
